Local History

The Las Vegas Association of NAPMW was formed more than 20 years ago. Monthly Dinner Meetings provide invaluable information on industry related topics. In the past year we have hosted important speakers such as Scott Bice, Commissioner of the Nevada Division of Mortgage Lending.

Our focus has consistently been to offer education classes to increase knowledge of current lending practices. In 2004 our local association was granted approval from the State of Nevada to provide classes for Continuing Education Credit. Also in 2004 we co-sponsored FHA DE Training with HUD. The three-day seminar was attended by more than 100 people from around the southwest.

The Las Vegas Association supports local charities in the community. For the past few years SafeNest has been our charity of choice. In addition, we sponsor the APMW Foundation which offers scholarships to members. NAPMW Las Vegas is part of the Western Region of NAPMW.

National History

On February 12, 1964, nine women with 161 years of combined experience in various fields of mortgage banking met in Seattle, Washington to consider the need for an organization to promote women in the mortgage lending professions. On April 22, 1964, the first association, to be known as the Seattle Association of Professional Mortgage Women, was officially formed. Other areas began to show interest in a similar organization. In February of 1967, the National Association of Professional Mortgage Women was chartered for the purpose of organizing Local Associations throughout the United States. Today, the Association is composed of approximately 4,000 members in over 80 Local Associations.

The charter members were interested in forming an Association that was committed to several important purposes.

These purposes include:

• To promote and foster educational opportunities for its members
• To maintain the high standards of the Mortgage Profession
• To work for equal recognition and opportunities for women
• To bring together its members for the exchange of experiences, ideas and interest in all phases of mortgage banking on the Local, Regional, and National levels
• To encourage women to choose the mortgage banking profession as a career

Who Are NAPMW Members

NAPMW's membership consists of a vast array of mortgage lending professionals, including loan officers, underwriters, processors, appraisers, and mortgage insurance representatives, to name just a few. As a result of it being a dynamic and diverse group, NAPMW is stronger as a whole and provides its members with an invaluable professional edge.
